Rusty 2
(Caracal)
DOB 3/28/97

A second caracal also named Rusty (Rusty 2) was born at BCR on 3-28-97 of breeders Cachanga ($800) and Crackle. Cachanga was imported from Africa along with his sister Cachinga ($800) at 14 weeks old. Baskin writes. "The "new" bloodlines are a valuable acquisition to help strengthen  pedigrees in the U.S." Rusty and his sister Rose were taken from their mother and were bottle raised in Baskin's house as pets. Because you do not rescue cats to breed them or raise them as pets, these 8 cats, Rusty, Rusty 2, Rupa, Sierra, Cachanga, Crackle, Cachinga, and Rose were not rescues.

The Evolving Story

Wildlife on Easy Street 1999

"Rusty and his sister Rose were born at Wildlife On Easy Street to parents Cachanga and Crackle. These siblings were hand-raised and grew up in the house. They are very tame and sweet and have often participated in Easy Street educational programs. The two were separated once it became clear that sexual maturity was imminent and Rose now lives with her pal Elijah in the front yard. Rusty has his own spacious pen by the lake."

Big Cat Rescue 2006

"Notice the way Rusty and Rose seem to spiral into one another as they lay here so gently connected to Mother Earth. They are dreaming of Grouse medicine that is symbolic in her dance to the Sacred Spiral. Visualize the Sun as one member of a huge group of stars swirling in the pinwheel shape of the Milky Way. Then draw yourself out of that pinwheel of light into the spiraling of your own DNA's double helix. Rose and Rusty ask you to analyze the way you move through your world.  Are you in perfect synchronicity with the harmonic spiraling and interaction of all life, or are you merely spiraling out of control?  Do you see yourself as part of all that is, or separate from all other life?  Just as it is hard to tell where Rusty ends and Rose begins remember that we are all ONE.  Every thought that we have manifests itself in our reality so it makes our lives better and the world around us more joyful if we do our part to concentrate on peace, love, harmony and all that is good "

Big Cat Rescue 2007-Present

"Rusty has some of the most beautiful features you will find in a caracal.  Having been around humans all of his life, he is extremely interested in what the volunteers who clean his enclosure are up to every day.  Even when he is enjoying a delightful catnap, he insists on jumping up and following the volunteers around his cat-a-tat, all the while marking his palm fronds and rubbing his cheeks against the wire.  He is in constant motion while he enjoys his “human enrichment.”"
